As taught by Yogi Bhajan
Also known as The Yoga of Awareness, for its ability to bring insight into the practitioner on a deep psychological level, Kundalini Yoga is potent and powerful and will shake you up – in a good way. It gets you physically and mentally fit and fast.
Every kriya (or set) is designed to produce a specific response and alongside that you’ll be led through pranayama (breathing exercises), a long, deep relaxation and a meditation. With its focus on developing ourselves from the inside out, much of each session will be done with the eyes closed – providing more opportunity to become aware, start to listen and learn from you.
The exercises in a Kundalini Yoga set or meditation may involve repetitive or holding postures, some are dynamic, others very still, some use mantra, others visualisations. Every class is different in this way.
‘Kundalini’ literally means ‘the lock of hair of the beloved’. It is a massive dormant energy that holds our full potential. Kundalini Yoga works to uncoil that potential – to awaken and rise it up from the base of our spine.
